Zoe Saldana on her role in the Nina Simone Film

The long-delayed biopic Nina, starring Zoe Saldana, has officially been given the green light. It’s expected to finally open in theaters this December 2015.

Zoe Saldana was questioned on how she's managed to stay positive around her her role in the Nina Simone biopic film. Many fans were upset when it was announced that Saldana was going to be replacing Mary J. Blige, partially because of the fact that Simone had much darker skin than Saldana does.

See below comment from Zoe Saldana on being A Black Woman:

"When I go to the D.R., the press in Santo Domingo always asks, "¿Qué te consideras, dominicana o americana?" (What do you consider yourself, Dominican or American?) I don't understand it, and it's the same people asking the same question. So I say, time and time again, "Yo soy una mujer negra." ("I am a black woman.") [They go,] "Oh, no, tú eres trigueñita." ("Oh no, you are 'dark skinned'") I'm like, "No! Let's get it straight, yo soy una mujer negra." ("I am a black woman)."
